Royal expert explains why Queen didn’t have photo of Harry and Meghan Markle

A royal commentator has suggested the real reason for a picture of Meghan, Harry and Archie not being included in the Queen's speech is far from a malicious one.

The Queen released parts of her Christmas Day message while sat alongside a collection of framed photographs of the Royal Family.

However, Meghan and Harry were glaringly absent from the carefully chosen and placed family pictures – leading many to believe the Monarch may be hurt from their absence at Christmas this year.

However, royal commentator, Ingrid Seward, has suggested the Queen's decision not to include their family portrait was not deliberate or malicious.

Ingrid said: “It does seem to represent the idea of a slimmed-down monarchy.

“All the media problems with Harry and Meghan must have worried her. However, she would never be so underhand as to deliberately omit their picture.”

Snaps on show included Prince William’s family, her dad George VI and a portrait of Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

Before the message was released, Harry and Megan sent out their own electronic Christmas card, featuring one of the clearest shots yet of little Archie, who is looking directly into the camera.

Meghan and Harry can be seen sat behind him, beaming at their son.

And at the bottom it reads "this year we have chosen to send our holiday card electronically".

A source told the Mirror: "Harry and Meghan sent a selection of hard copy cards to family but chose to send their cards electronically this year with the aim of being environmentally conscious as well as being in Canada where they are currently enjoying a six week break away from royal duties."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex took their seven month old boy with them for an “extended holiday break” after telling how they were struggling to deal with life in the public eye.

They decided to snub the Queen’s invitation to Sandringham in favour of staying abroad.

A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan earlier said they will be “spending private family time in Canada”.

The palace aide said: “The decision to base themselves in Canada reflects the importance of this Commonwealth country to them both.

The Duke of Sussex has been a frequent visitor to Canada over many years, and it was also home to The Duchess for seven years before she became a member of the Royal Family.

”They are enjoying sharing the warmth of the Canadian people and the beauty of the landscape with their young son.”
