ARIA nominee Charlie Collins might be at the music industry's big night of celebration on Wednesday, November 27, but the former member of Sydney group Tigertown doesn't have too may other nights off between now and the end of summer.
Collins, who released her Snowpine album in May, this week released new song I Don't Want To Be in a Rock Band and will be playing shows around the country, starting this weekend with an appearance at the Queenscliff Music Festival in Victoria as well as two hometown shows in Tamworth in January; at the Tamworth Hotel on the 22nd and the Albert Hotel on the 24th.

Her national tour includes a mix of headline shows and support slots with the likes of Kasey Chambers in Darwin, Cairns, Townsville and Mackay later this month and with Cold Chisel, as part of their Blood Moon tour, early next year in Tamworth. It's a massive step up for Collins, who released half a dozen EPs with Tigertown before stepping out on her own.
This week's new song is a return to her roots, according to Collins, and was written while on tour with Gang of Youths. If she takes home the ARIA for best country album later this month, it would be another significant step in her musical journey, particularly as she's been nominated alongside Lee Kernaghan, who's already won a couple of best country album ARIA awards, Felicity Urquhart, Morgan Evans and Sarah Storer. It's that time of year again, award season, so best of luck to Charlie Collins and all the ARIA nominees.

KISS
Alive!
(Casablanca)
★★★★
Between February of 1974 and March `75, Kiss released three albums. Six months later the juggernaut from New York City dropped this live one, building on the massive hype around the group. Opening with Deuce as guitarists Ace Frehley and Paul Stanley lay down the attack that would influence countless young guitarists, it also features a barnstorming Black Diamond, 100,000 Years and future staple of their set, Rock and Roll All Nite. They might not be rockin' Australia this month, after cancelling their End of the Road tour, but "if you believe in rock'n'roll" then maybe Stanley's message here reached you.
