Tesco Clubcard: Supermarket issues important warning to customers – you must act fast

Supermarket giant Tesco has made important changes to its online Clubcard scheme. In an attempt to keep shoppers’ accounts safe and secure, the supermarket giant will introduce more verification steps to ensure accounts are not hacked. The change will be positive for customers as it will help them access their accounts more quickly and easier.

Instead of customers having to remember their full card number to verify their account when they login to the site, they will be able to use a passcode that gets sent straight to their phone number.

This will be a one-time passcode only and must be used within a certain period of time.

Customers must make sure that the phone number the supermarket holds is their correct one, otherwise they won’t have access to the one-time code.

However, because of the change, Tesco has issued a warning to shoppers reminding them that they must update all their details.

If customers don’t, they risk getting locked out of their account and losing all their points and rewards that they have built up.

In an email to Clubcard holders, Tesco said: “We know that your Clubcard number is hard to remember, and we’re always looking for ways to best protect your account.

“So we’re adding a safe and easy way to authenticate your account with a one-time passcode sent to your mobile number.

“To make sure you can always access your Tesco account, please ensure your mobile number is up to date.

“Just head to the personal details page to check it. Remember to have your Clubcard to hand – while we’re moving to the new authentication system, you’ll need it to make any changes.

“Don’t worry, nothing else is changing with your account – your preferences won’t change, and your data will remain secure.

“Thanks for helping us keep your Tesco account safe.”

In order to update and change details, customers should visit the personal details page of their account to complete the change.

The change comes for customers after the supermarket giant extended the period in which customers can use their Clubcard vouchers during the pandemic.

Vouchers that would have expired on May 31 are now valid until November 30.

Which? suggest to make the most out of your loyalty card is to maximise the points you earn.

You should keep an eye on the Tesco website to spot opportunities to grab double points or bonus points when buying certain products.

Most supermarket loyalty cards have a very low return meaning you will need to take advantage of the bonus points if you want to get the most out of your loyalty card.

Which? says: “For example, Tesco Clubcard has Reward Partners that can offer better deals for your points. For example, you can turn every 50 pence of Tesco Clubcard vouchers into £1.50 at Pizza Express.”

Tesco also recently launched a new Clubcard Plus loyalty scheme, which costs £7.99 a month and offers a 10 percent discount on two weekly shops per month, which is valid in-store.

The 10 percent is valid across Tesco brands including F&F clothing, Tesco Pet, double data with Tesco mobile and the opportunity to apply for a Clubcard Plus credit card.
