Three things to always buy with a Tesco Clubcard and two to avoid | The Sun

IF you're a Tesco shopper you will no doubt have heard of the Clubcard.

Under the scheme, you get exclusive low prices on dozens of products and build up points after making purchases.

It has proven so popular since its launch in 1995 there are now millions of customers signed up.

It's definitely worth signing up if you shop at the supermarket regularly as you can save hundreds of pounds in the long term.

That said, you might not know what products to pick up to maximise your savings.

To help, The Sun has done the hard work for you as we reveal the three Clubcard items to always buy, and the two to avoid.

Customers without a Clubcard now have to pay £3.90 for the offer, while those with one have to fork out £3.40.

That said, you're still saving 50p if you're signed up to the loyalty scheme.

Plus, you're getting a cheaper price compared to other retailers.

Sainsbury's meal deal costs £3.50 while Boots' comes in at £3.60 if you've got an Advantage Card.

Morrisons and Co-op's are both £3.50 too, if you're signed up to their membership schemes.

How much you'll actually save with the Tesco Clubcard meal deal depends on what you buy.

But as an example, if you bought a 500ml Diet Coke, BLT sandwich and Sensations Sweet Chilli Crisps 40g pack you'd pay £5.19 individually and £3.40 under the meal deal – a £1.79 saving.

Alcohol

As the weather warms up, people will be looking to stock up on booze for all those summer barbecues and gatherings.

And Tesco Clubcard customers might just get the best prices out there.

We checked out online prices on six bottles of booze and Clubcard was the cheapest if not the same compared to other retailers.

A one litre bottle of Jack Daniels costs £25 with a Clubcard whereas the next cheapest option is Morrisons for £26. After that is Asda at £28.

Meanwhile, a one litre bottle of Bacardi spiced rum comes in at £18, the same as Morrisons.

Baby bits

You might be tempted to pop to Superdrug or Boots for all your baby bits, but in some cases, it's cheaper to opt for Tesco.

Most of the time you'll get the same price compared to other retailers too.

A 250ml bottle of Areeno kids bubble bath and wash is cheapest at £4.30 with a Clubcard compared to other retailers.

Boots is the next cheapest option, which is selling two bottles for £9.

Meanwhile, a 52-pack of Pampers sensitive baby wipes is £1.25, or two for £2, the same as Boots.

Items to avoid

Snacks and treats

Tesco Clubcard can be a go to for cheap snacks and treats, including chocolates and crisps, but not always.

We found 310g boxes of Maltesers and six-packs of Walkers baked cheese and onion crisps cheaper at other retailers.

The Maltesers are £3.50 in B&M while in Tesco they are £3.60.

Meanwhile, the Walkers crisps are £1.65 in Tesco with a Clubcard but two for £3 in Asda.

Tobacco

One of the major perks of the Tesco Clubcard scheme is that you can get points on purchases.

But there are certain products that are excluded, including tobacco or tobacco-related products.

On top of this, you won't get points for lottery tickets, stamps, prescription medicines, infant formula milk, Tesco gift cards, third-party gift cards or saving stamps.

Customers in Northern Ireland won't get points when buying alcohol either.

How does the Clubcard work?

Tesco Clubcard lets customers earn points on their purchases which can then be turned into vouchers for money off food or at one of the supermarket's partners.

You get one point for every £1 spent in-store or online and after scanning your card or app.

You also get one point for every £2 spent on fuel, although this is changing from June 14.

One point equals 1p, so 150 points gets you £1.50, for example. You need a minimum of 150 points to request a voucher.

The vouchers are worth face value at Tesco but triple at any one of the supermarket's partners, which includes Pizza Express, RAC and Disney+.

This, again, is changing from June 14, when the points will be worth double their value.

Clubcard holders also get cheaper prices on some items compared to those without the loyalty card.
