Touching moment baby hears mum’s voice for first time after getting hearing aid

A mum has shared the heartwarming moment her newborn son hears her voice for the first time.

Tiffany Wroe and husband John, from Manchester, recorded the reaction after fitting the new hearing aids to their three-month-old boy Saul.

Little Saul was diagnosed with bilateral moderate-severe hearing loss after failing his newborn hearing screening several times.

The video shows the tot lying in his mum's arms and smiling when his dad John says: "It's Daddy".

Saul turns his head and looks up before turning back to his mum.

Tiffany is heard saying: "It's Mummy. Hello! Can you hear Mummy?"

The 11-week-old seems to understand and even gets teary when he answers his mum with tiny noises.

The mum-of-three told Daily Record: "It was very, very emotional and such a special time.

"Doctors told us he had profound hearing loss but we weren't sure because we knew he had been more responsive than he would have been if he was profoundly deaf so we did a bit of research ourselves."

The couple contacted specialists from Manchester University to get a more accurate measure of his level of hearing.

Tiffany continued: "In the end they said he could hear from about 60 decibels. People with full hearing can hear at about 20.

"If you speak at normal level Saul can't hear, but if you were to really shout he would be able to hear something."

Little Saul will have to get his hearing aids fitted when he gets older.

"We don't know if his hearing will ever get better, but they have said it shouldn't get any worse, which is a relief," Tiffany said.

"His big sisters think that’s Saul's hearing aids are his superpowers so that he can hear them talk. He certainly is our little superstar."
