Viola Davis's Glowy Golden Globes Makeup Was Created With All Drugstore Products
Viola Davis loves to wear colors and print on the red carpet, and it's easy to see why.
While the 2021 Golden Globes may have been a virtual show, it didn't stop the nominee for Best Actress in a Drama Motion Picture from wearing a bold look for her appearance from home.
To keep the focus on Davis's stunning West African print dress, the star's makeup artist Autumn Moultrie went with dark, but subtle, makeup and sheer lipstick.
"I loved Viola's choice of color for the dress because her bold choice redefines the notion of beauty and what it means to be adorned," Moultrie tells InStyle. "Her choice recognizes the cultural specificity of African cloth as beautiful, as something to be worn to an awards show and not only the European designers."
Skin prep is key when doing a simple makeup look. So before reaching for any color cosmetics, Moultrie prepped Davis's skin with L'Oréal Paris' Revitalift Derm Intensives 1.5% Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum. "This serum instantly hydrates the skin and creates a nice glow before applying makeup," she says.
Moultrie's complexion product picks were skin-focused, too. The makeup artist used L'Oréal's Age Perfect Serum Foundation, Concealer, and Powder Foundation to even out Davis's skin and boost radiance. "The Age Perfect Serum Foundation contains SPF and leaves the skin radiant without settling into lines," Moultrie says.

On Davis's eyes, the makeup artist simply used L'Oréal's Age Perfect Satin Glide Eyeliner and Voluminous Mascara for a "subtle pop." Moultrie tied the look together by lining the star's lips with L'Oréal's Age Perfect Anti Feathering Lipliner and Age Perfect Satin Lipstick.
And that's how an Oscar winner does a minimal makeup look.
