We’re used to seeing Melania Trump supporting her husband US president Donald Trump at his official affairs, or performing her own presidential duties as the First Lady of the United States. Melania has been married to Donald Trump since 2005. Despite having a 24-year age gap, the couple have been together ever since they first met in 1998. After the wedding, the former model became the step-mum of Donald’s children, Donald Trump Jr, 41, Ivanka Trump, Eric Trump, 35, and Tiffany Trump, 25. They also have a son together, Barron Trump, 13. Since 2016, the couple have acted as the President and First Lady of the United States.
What did Melania Trump do when she was young? First Lady’s life before Donald REVEALED
On the official site House website, her bio reads: “In her role as First Lady, Mrs. Trump focuses her time on the many issues affecting children. An unwavering characteristic of the First Lady is her aptitude for showing love and compassion in all that she does. Mrs. Trump spends much of her time meeting with children who are patients at hospitals and care centers.”
But what was Melania’s life like before she met Donald, and what did she do when she was young?
Melania was born in Slovenia to Viktor Knavs and Amalija. She is the second First Lady born outside of the United Stated States – after Louisa Adams, who was born in London – and the only First Lady to become a naturalised U.S. citizen.
Melania reportedly speaks Slovene, English, French, Serbian, and German.
According to Biography.com, her father, Viktor Knavs, now 74, was a car dealer, and her mother, Amalija, now 72, was a children’s clothing designer.
As a child, Melania and other children of workers at the factory participated in fashion shows that featured children’s clothing.
At the young age of five, she began modelling, moving onto commercial work at 16.
Two years later, she signed with a modelling agency in Milan, launching her international modelling career.
Her big break came when she was 22, after a Slovenian women’s magazine Jana put on its “Look of the Year” contest, in which Melania Trump was the runner-up. The contest helped put her on the map among European models.
In 1996, Melania took part in a nude photoshoot for Max – a former French men’s magazine – alongside Swedish model Emma Ericsson, who was also nude.
She aso posed nude for GQ in 2000.
She was later granted her visa in 2001, making her a US citizen.
When questioned about the Max photoshoot, President Trump said: “Melania was one of the most successful models, and she did many photo shoots, including for covers and major magazines. This was a picture taken for a European magazine prior to my knowing Melania. In Europe, pictures like this are very fashionable and common.”
Before her marriage to Trump, Melania kept a very low-key profile.
In a 2005 interview with The New York Post, Paolo Zampolli, the president of ID Models recalled: “It was unusual for her to go out; she never went to clubs or bars … She never dated anyone in New York before Donald. She only went to movies by herself and to the gym.”
Growing up, Melania also had a close bond with her sister Ines, which has continued to this day, with Melania describing the artist as her “longtime confidant.”
According to friends, when the two sisters were young, they sketched clothing designs for their mother to make.
Nowadays, Ines leads a very private life, although she has shared some throwback photos of them on her Instagram account.
