Which B&Q stores are closing down in the UK? | The Sun

B&Q is one of the most popular DIY retailers, so shoppers will be keen to know if their local branch is closing.

The chain has over 300 shops across the UK, so chances are you have one near you.

Earlier this year B&Q closed several shops within Asda supermarkets, but it doesn't have any plans to close further sites currently.

The store teamed up with Asda in 2020 to launch these "mini-shops" inside supermarkets.

But all eight of these sites closed on March 11.

Shops contained a large number of B&Q's usual products, and customers can go to pick up orders from some branches.

B&Q said the move was due to changes in shopper behaviour caused by the pandemic, which has seen people tie multiple shops into one single trip.

B&Q's eight locations which have now shut are as follows:

  • Sheffield Drakehouse
  • Dagenham
  • Roehampton
  • Edmonton
  • Thurmaston
  • Great Bridge
  • Lancaster
  • Hartlepool

Each of these mini-shops closed for good on March 11 this year.

B&Q's 57 staff affected by the shake-up were offered alternative roles in nearby stores.

The DIY retailer said it will look to launch smaller stores along the high street instead.

Is B&Q opening stores?

The DIY retailer has opened new convenience-style stores this year offering 30,000 new products.

They're small high street stores called B&Q Locals and customers can access everything they’d expect to see at a bigger B&Q store.

All shops offer either immediate collection in store or to order for click and collect within an hour or the next day.

The chain is said to be considering opening 50 more of these shops .

Meanwhile, B&M is opening seven new branches across the UK within weeks.

Plus, shoppers will want to know if Wilko is still open after the chain filed for administration.
