Will Harry And Meghan’s New Daughter Receive A Royal Title?

Congratulations are in order because Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have now welcomed their second child together. A statement from the royal couple announced on June 6 that their daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born Friday, June 4 (via People). Both the Duchess of Sussex and Lili “are healthy and well, and settling in at home,” per the statement (via Archewell).

The birth of Harry and Meghan’s daughter comes just weeks after palace aides called for Harry and Meghan to strip themselves of their royal titles following the family drama. Since Harry and Meghan’s exit from the royal family earlier this year, the two have been vocal about their struggles while living within the monarchy. Harry’s most recent Apple TV+ series, “The Me You Can’t See,” may have caused an even further rift between him and his father, Prince Charles, who was reportedly “hurt” by what the former royal said about his upbringing, a royal expert told Us Magazine. 

With calls for Harry and Meghan to remove their own royal titles, you may be wondering if baby Lili will be receiving any royal titles at all. Keep reading to find out!

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's children, Archie and Lili, have not received royal titles

Although Prince William’s children have royal titles, it’s not customary for grandchildren of the monarch to receive titles like “prince” and “princess,” according to CBS News. The reason Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are the exception is they are in the direct line of succession to the throne. Even though Lilibet is eighth in line, she does not receive a royal title. 

There was even discussion as to whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first born, Archie, would receive a title. While the press claimed it was the couple’s decision not to have a royal title, it was revealed in their tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey that it was the Firm’s decision (via Town & Country Magazine). The couple would have actually preferred Archie to be a prince because then he would have received security. With all the tabloids and press surrounding the pregnancy, Harry and Meghan wanted their son to be “safe.” The lack of security was one of the many reasons why they chose to leave the royal family, the couple shared with Winfrey. 

Despite all the recent drama in the press (and the lack of royal titles for their children), the couple seems to be in high spirits with the birth of their daughter. Harry said to Winfrey in March (via NBC News), “Now we’ve got our family. We’ve got the four of us and our two dogs, and it’s great.”
