REECE JAMES feared success for Chelsea would mean curtains for his chances of shining at his boyhood club.
The highly-rated defender completed a 12-year journey by making his first-team debut in Wednesday’s 7-1 rout of Grimsby — and marked it with a goal.
But his big break had appeared a long way off when the Blues won the Europa League under Maurizio Sarri last May.
James, 19 — who was on loan at Wigan — said: “At the time I wasn’t sure because the team did well last season, winning the Europa League.
“When I found out I was staying I was happy. I’m glad I’m getting my chance.
“It’s a dream come true. I’ve played for this club since I was seven and it’s always what I wanted.
“When I was young I supported the club and still do. I looked up to Didier Drogba, John Terry, Frank Lampard.”
CHELSEA winger Willian is fuming with his Fifa 20 rating of 82 – but fans think he should be even LOWER.
The Brazilian has been criticised for his performances in recent months, and many expected him to move on in the summer.
But despite being linked with the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona, Willian – who got the No10 shirt after Eden Hazard left – is still sticking it out at Stamford Bridge.
He shared a photo of him opening the box containing his Fifa 20 card – but captioned it “82? Are you kidding me @easportsfifa?”
But unfortunately for the 31-year-old, heaps of Blues fans thought the game makers had been too kind with his rating.
Adam Warlock wrote: “Man should be getting 74 or sumin… dude thinks he is prime Ronaldinho.”
Another Chelsea supporter posted: I actually despise Willian so much, the guy actually thinks he is good
FORMER Chelsea defender Ola Aina has claimed the thought about staying with the Blues before signing for Torino in the summer.
He said: “It was tough because that is all I knew, my whole life. It was a hard decision, but for me, just going on the season I had last season, it was right for me to do.
“It would cross anyone’s mind. I thought about it but I wasn’t sure if it would be the right time for me.
“I had a lot of contact with Eddie Newton, I spoke with Eddie at length and in detail so we both came to sort of an agreement and he wished me all the best of luck and said if I ever needed his help, or some of the staff’s help in future, I could always knock on their door.”
CHELSEA should not underestimate Manchester United, warned Frank Lampard.
The Blues will face Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's struggling side in the Carabao Cup next month.
Speaking about the draw, Lampard said: “It's a big draw, two big teams and I'm pleased we're at home. We'll see.
“I think a lot can happen in football in a short time. The next round is not coming tomorrow. We have to respect the fact they have good players.
“They beat us 4-0… so I'm certainly not going to stand here and talk Man Utd down.
“It's going to be a tough game, and the beauty of what we did on Wednesday night was make the game look pretty easy.”
