MIKEL ARTETA is set to be handed the Arsenal manager's job this week – and could be on the touchline as early as Sunday's meeting with his former club Everton.
But Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's position as captain has come under scrutiny after his brother condemned the imminent appointment.

MIKEL ARTETA will reportedly not be backed in the January transfer window if he takes over at Arsenal – and will have to sell Mesut Ozil.
The former Gunners midfielder is the leading candidate to replace Unai Emery at the Emirates after holding talks with club bosses.
But according to the Daily Star, Arteta has been warned he will not be given funds in the winter window to improve his team.
Instead Gunners chiefs have put an emphasis on selling unwanted flops on high wages, with Shkodran Mustafi joining Ozil on the transfer list.
It is claimed Arsenal bosses believe the club has enough talent in its ranks without needing to spend money in the market next month.
ARSENAL have agreed a three-and-a-half-year deal for Mikel Arteta to take over as the new manager, according to reports.
It is understood the deal is almost completed and the Spaniard is now set to be confirmed as compatriot Unai Emery's successor.
According to Football London, the final paperwork is being processed by lawyers.
But it is still unclear when the announcement will be made.
Arteta, 37, is due to be at Manchester City's game with Oxford United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals which looks to be his final match as Pep Guardiola's assistant.
ARSENAL are hoping to complete a DOUBLE raid on Manchester City.
The Gunners are poised to announce their former midfielder and City assistant Mikel Arteta as the man to succeed Unai Emery.
And talent-spotter Sam Fagbemi, currently City's specialist in the south, has been targetted to follow Arteta to the The Emirates.
The Daily Mail is reporting that Arsenal “have offered Fagbemi a stronger grip on their youth recruitment approach in an effort to persuade him to leave City”.
MIKEL ARTETA has reportedly been told that he will not have huge funds to splash out on new talent in January.
The Spaniard is set to take over at Arsenal this week, with the club in need of refreshing.
Yet, Daily Star reveal that his job next month will be to force out the likes of Mesut Ozil and Shkodran Mustafi.
Having spent a significant amount of funds in the summer, the Gunners are looking to get rid of under-performing and high-earning flops.
EX-ARSENAL star Alan Smith reckons Mikel Arteta is the right choice.
He told Sky Sports: “Well I think [Arteta is the right choice], yeah.
“From the outset I've thought that he would be the most exciting, the boldest choice as an innovative young coach that can put on really good sessions, and that transfers to the pitch I think.
“Obviously he's had a huge influence with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, takes a lot of the sessions.
“Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne have both credited him with improving their game.”
