THERE are moments in a club’s history when the nettle needs to be grasped. When an opportunity so significant presents itself that it simply cannot be ignored.

When heads and hearts need to work in tandem because of the sheer enormity of the pressure placed on players by the chance, the big chance.

It came for Manchester United in those closing days of their 1998-99 Treble season when they needed three wins to achieve footballing immortality and got it.

For their neighbours City it came, went, returned and almost went again in that dramatic finale to the 2011-12 campaign.

Arsenal can look back at how they held their nerve to assume the mantel of The Invincibles.

Leicester gave their fans a season they will never forget with the biggest shock title win in football history two years ago.

When their chance came, they did not let it go. On a more gloomy note, you can look at my own club Newcastle and the ramifications of its failure to turn a 12-point lead into a title triumph back in 1995-96.
