Andy Murray fires warning to world top 10 ahead of Wimbledon

British tennis legend Andy Murray has fired a warning to the world top 10 players ahead of Wimbledon.

The second Grand Slam of the year is still ongoing at the French Open but Murray skipped the event on the Paris clay to focus on the grass-court season – with this year’s Championships getting underway at the All England Club on July 3.

Former world No.1 Murray, a two-time Wimbledon champion, still believes he can defeat players ranked inside the world top 10 on his favourite grass surface, which is best suited to his style of play.

The 36-year-old, who plays with a metal hip after career-saving surgery, recently lifted his first title in four years on the ATP Challenger Tour and referenced last year’s wins over Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

After beating Chung Hyeon at the Surbiton Trophy, world No. 43 Murray was quizzed if he still considered himself as one of the best 10 players on grass.

‘Yes, I think so,’ Murray said. ‘It is hard to put numbers on it, but yes, I would fancy myself against a lot of them [the top 10].

‘Last year I won against Kyrgios who made the final of Wimbledon, I won against Tsitsipas – it is probably not his favourite surface but he is one of the best players in the world.

‘I was a set all with Berrettini – who is quite clearly in the top few grass-court players – in the final of Stuttgart before I hurt my abs.’

Carlos Alcaraz currently occupies the world No.1 spot and is the joint favourite to win the ongoing French Open along with world No.3 Novak Djokovic, with both men on a collision course to meet in the last four if they win their quarter-finals.

Daniil Medvedev is the current world No.2 and the players ranked No.4 to No.10 include Casper Ruud, Tsitsipas, Holger Rune, Andrey Rublev, Taylor Fritz, Jannik Sinner and Felix Auger-Aliassime.
