Criminal gang arrested after wearing Mo Salah masks in shoplifting spree disguised as the Liverpool superstar – The Sun
FOUR men have been arrested in Egypt after disguising themselves with Mohamed Salah masks for a series of shop raids.
In the Cairo district of Nasr City, the gang are reported to have escaped in a getaway car after encountering police during an armed robbery.
After being apprehended, the men were pictured in front of their masks of the Liverpool talisman.
According to Egyptian outlet Masrawy, the quartet admitted to crimes of breaking into shops and stealing goods.
They were found with a gun, ammunition, and large cable cutters used to break locks and enter the shops.
Their fate will be decided in front of a public prosecutor at a later date.
Reds hero Salah grew up in the town of Nagrig, to the north of capital Cairo, and is an idol to millions in his home country.
With 67 caps and 41 goals for the Egyptian national side, he is still some way behind the country's all-time record scorer Hossam Hassan and his tally off 69.
In fact, Salah's crowning moment with the North African nation is arguably yet to come after he struggled at the 2018 World Cup off the back of injury and failed to lead them to glory when Egypt hosted 2019's Africa Cup of Nations.
There are fears on Merseyside of an upcoming clash with the 27-year-old's national team ahead of a hugely busy 2021 schedule.
The AFCON competition is held in January of next year before the summer's rearranged Olympics, tournaments which Egypt will hope to have their star man available for.
