Dani Ceballos undergoing Arsenal medical despite Emery’s fears deal could collapse because of horror injury to Real Madrid star Asensio – The Sun

ARSENAL are on the verge of securing their second signing of the summer after Dani Ceballos arrived for his medical.

The Gunners have been assured that the 22-year-old will still sign for them this week in spite of Marco Asensio’s horrific knee injury.

Real Madrid have confirmed that Spanish international Asensio suffered a torn cruciate ligament injury as well as damage to his kneecap during Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in Washington.

He has already been ruled out for the season and there were concerns that could affect Madrid’s plans to send Ceballos out on loan to the Emirates.

But Arsenal, who return from the United States this lunchtime, have been told that Ceballos will still be joining them for the year before returning to the Bernabeu next summer.

Now Arsenal are planning to announce the arrival of both Ceballos and £27million centre-half William Saliba on Thursday.

Asensio suffered the horrific injury in an innocuous challenge with Pierre-Emerick Aubameryang but the Arsenal striker has been absolved of any blame.

The Gunners’ £60million record signing scored his first goal of the pre-season campaign on Tuesday and has been linking well with Alexandre Lacazette up front.

And Emery was quick to dismiss the growing speculation that Arsenal could cash in on last season’s Golden Boot winner this summer.

Manchester United have been regularly linked with a £70million move for 30-year-old Auba this summer.

But Emery insisted: “We are very happy with Aubameyang and we don’t want to sell him.

“He gives us a lot of options because he can play like a lone striker, as part of a front two and on the left or right wing.

“He gives us so many attacking options and possibilities in the final third of the pitch and that is very rich for us.”

Madrid paid £16million for Ceballos in 2017 after his breakthrough with Real Betis and Spain's Under-21 team.

Initially sparsely used by the Bernabeu boss, the 22-year-old was given more opportunities once Zidane resigned but found himself surplus to requirements when he returned in the spring.
