Dutch international footballer Quincy Promes sentenced to 18 months in prison for stabbing cousin | The Sun
FORMER Ajax star Quincy Promes has reportedly been sent to prison after being found guilty of stabbing his cousin at a family party.
The Dutchman has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for aggravated assault.
The incident occurred in the summer of 2020 after an argument broke out between Promes and his cousin, reportedly over a stolen necklace.
Promes stabbed his cousin in the leg and was initially hit with an attempted murder accusation.
That was dropped but Promes has been found guilty of assault and will pay £6000 in damages to his cousin, report NOS.
Promes denied the charges but the Public Prosecution Service used evidence from two eyewitnesses as well as text messages on Promes' phone to convict the Spartak Moscow star.

It is alleged Promes had intended to strike his cousin in the neck, while the winger warned it was fortunate he was not carrying a firearm.
Promes, 31, has the right to appeal the conviction, while reports claim he would have received a more lenient sentence if he had attended the trial.
The ex-Sevilla ace is currently in Moscow and is believed to be in the process of applying for Russian citizenship, which means he could avoid prison in the Netherlands.
There is reportedly no extradition agreement between Russia and the Netherlands, and it can only be requested if Promes fails with any appeal.

Promes is expected back in court later this year charged with importing drugs after being accused of investing in two shipments of cocaine in 2020, with prosecutors claiming he had a role in organising the smuggling.
An estimated 1,370kg was imported worth a staggering street value of £65m, with the drug being intercepted in Antwerp three years ago.
A pre-trial hearing in the Netherlands took place on June 5, with Promes once again failing to attend.
