Fred was made Man Utd laughing stock after arranging wedding around Copa America… then not making Brazil squad – The Sun
FRED was reportedly made the laughing stock of the Manchester United dressing room after arranging his wedding during pre-season… as he mistakenly thought he would make Brazil's Copa America squad.
The £52million midfielder has struggled to do anything to justify his lofty fee since arriving at Old Trafford in 2018.
And the 26-year-old has been paying the price among his teammates for missing the first chunk of United's summer tour after booking his wedding for mid-July.
Fred assumed that he'd be unable to tie the knot with chemical engineer Monique Salum at the end of last season because he would be involved in Brazil's Copa America squad.
But after a horrid debut season for United, the midfielder was snubbed for the tournament in his home country and has become the "butt of the jokes" inside Old Trafford, according to The Times.
Brazil then went to lift their ninth Copa American crown by beating Peru 3-1 in the final – a week before Fred's July 14 wedding date.
The former Shakhtar Donetsk star then reportedly had to plead with boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to get the time off.
Fred was actually believed to have first tied the knot last year in a private ceremony, but he wanted the chance to celebrate with friends and family back in his homeland.
FRED AND BURIED
This caused staff at United to be surprised that Solskjaer approved such a request, but The Times add that the Norwegian was confident that the Brazilian would still hit the ground running this season.
However, SunSport revealed that Fred has carried his poor form into this term, having not played a through ball to a teammate since April.
His last assist came against Southampton last season as his deflected pass set up Romelu Lukaku in United’s 3-2 win at Old Trafford.
The Brazil international has also recently come under fire for his two latest performances, against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League and Newcastle in the Premier League.
Despite that, Fred is still expected to partner Scott McTominay at the base of United's midfield for the clash against Liverpool following Paul Pogba's injury.
The under-fire star recently said that Old Trafford legends are right to stick the boot into the current crop after a poor start to the season.
Asked about the stinging criticism from ex-Red Devils, Fred said: “They are within their rights, they’ve won many titles with this club. We have to shut up and work on the pitch.
“Some critics are pointless — but many can offer me lessons.
“I like to read what people are saying about my performances. With that, I can try to get better.”
#casamentomoefred
