Harriet Dart smashes racket as she becomes first Brit to crash out of Wimbledon

Harriet Dart smashed up her racket as she became the first British player to crash out of Wimbledon on Monday.

The 26-year-old world No.135 lost in the opening round to France’s world No.96 Diane Parry in front of a packed-out home crowd on Court 12.

Dart won the first set 7-6 (7-4) after a tie-break but Parry battled back emphatically and claimed a 6-0 bagel set to force a decider.

The British No.4 put up a fight but it was not enough as Frenchwoman Parry took the third set 6-4 for a 6-7 6-0 6-4 victory to book her place in the second round.

Dart was furious at registering her third opening-round exit at Wimbledon and was seen smashing up her racket in frustration.

There are five other British players in action on Monday with Jodie Burrage taking on Caty McNally and Katie Swan facing a tough opener against Belinda Bencic.

British No.2 Burrage recently reached her first WTA Tour final in Nottingham and is ranked world No.108 as she takes on American world No.67 Caty McNally.

In the men’s singles, British No.2 Dan Evans gets started against Quentin Halys, while British wildcards Liam Broady and Jan Choinski face Constant Lestienne and Dusan Lajovic respectively.
