Harry Kane is being held PRISONER at Tottenham and is ideal player to lead Man Utd to glory, says Wayne Rooney | The Sun

WAYNE ROONEY says his former England strike partner Harry Kane is “being held as a prisoner” by Tottenham.

Bayern Munich are in the market for a new centre-forward and boss Thomas Tuchel has made the Three Lions captain his No1 target.

Reports have claimed that the German club have had two bids rejected for the 29-year-old with a third expected.

Spurs denied an official offer had ever been received and that if there had been one, it would be rejected as they do not want to sell their talisman.

Kane only has 12 months remaining on his contract and that means that Spurs risk losing him for nothing next summer if they do not cash in over the coming weeks.

But chairman Daniel Levy is still hopeful the legend can be convinced to sign fresh terms, although new boss Ange Postecoglou has refused to confirm that the club’s record goalscorer is staying.

Kane, who is yet to win silverware with Spurs in his career, is currently in Australia on the club’s pre-season tour and played in yesterday’s 3-2 defeat to West Ham.

He is currently assessing his options while speculation over his future rumbles on, although Manchester United have pulled out of the chase to sign him as they feel Levy will make it impossible for him to join a Premier League rival.

Paris Saint-Germain have now emerged as contenders to Bayern in the hunt for the Premier League's all-time second-highest scorer – although the forward has allegedly told the Bundesliga champions he wants to join them.

Now 37-year-old Rooney, currently in charge of DC United and who will lead an MLS All-Star team against Arsenal tomorrow, has admitted that he would have loved to have seen his ex international team-mate at his former club.

However, he feels the icon is being held hostage.

Rooney said: “Harry Kane would be the ideal player, for me, to go and join Manchester United.

“It looks like he's being held as a prisoner at Tottenham! It looks very difficult for him to get out of there.

“If Manchester United have Harry Kane, then that gives their chances of going to win, and compete, a lot easier. But where that happens, remains to be seen.”
