'He's been a disgrace' – Gary Neville blasts Granit Xhaka after Arsenal star slammed team-mates following Newcastle loss

GARY NEVILLE labelled Arsenal ace Granit Xhaka a "disgrace" after the midfielder "had a go" at his team-mates following Monday's loss to Newcastle.

The Gunners' top-four hopes appear to be over after losing 2-0 to the Magpies at St James' Park as they are now fifth with two points separating them from rivals Tottenham with only one game to go.

Xhaka appeared to have taken a swipe at his team-mates during a post-match interview as he advised anyone who is nervous or unprepared to "stay at home".

The Switzerland international added that the North Londoners don't deserve to be in the Champions League or Europa League after a performance like that.

Xhaka said: “From the first minute to the 90th we didn’t deserve to be on the pitch.

“With a performance like that you don’t deserve to play Champions League or Europa League.

“I don’t know why we aren’t doing what the coach is asking. If someone isn’t ready then stay at home.

“If you’re nervous and not ready, stay on the bench and don’t come here. It was not acceptable.

“Everything was in our hands – it’s a totally different game now.”

But Neville took exception to Xhaka's statement and hopes he wasn't addressing Arsenal's promising young talent.

The Manchester United legend also hinted that the 29-year-old carries responsibility in the last few years following a series of red cards.

Neville told Sky Sports: "I think I heard him say, ‘Stay at home if you haven’t got the balls'. So he’s obviously having a go at people in his dressing room.

“I don’t know who he’s having a go at, I hope he wasn’t having a go at the younger players…him?

"I tell you what he's been a disgrace at times over the last four or five years, getting sent off recklessly. He’s left it up in the air there, that was nothing there.”
