Jets wish Bennett Jackson happy birthday then release him, delete tweet
It’s already been an eventful birthday for Bennett Jackson.
The Jets wished Jackson a happy birthday through their official Twitter account on Monday, then the team released the safety just four hours later. The social media post was later deleted.
Talk about awkward. Jackson, a New Jersey native, turned 28 on Monday.
The Jets claimed Jackson, who was drafted by the Giants in 2014 and played two seasons, off waivers 15 days ago.
But with quarterback Sam Darnold expected to be sidelined for a few weeks after contracting mono, the team had to make some roster adjustments.
Quarterback Luke Falk was signed earlier Monday to the active roster to be the backup for Trevor Siemian, who is set to start against the Browns at MetLife Stadium.
