Leeds United have removed a cardboard cutout of Osama bin Laden from the stands at Elland Road after eagle-eyed fans noticed the image of the former al-Qaeda leader.
In a bid to boost stadium atmosphere, Leeds have allowed supporters to pay £25 for themselves to appear – in the form of cutouts – in the stands.
As a result, an image of a ‘life-size’ Bin Laden started to circulate on social media after one Twitter user spotted the cutout of the former al-Qaeda leader.

A fan paid £25 to have a picture of the former al-Qaeda leader (pictured) as their ‘crowdie’
Many fans questioned whether the original image is photoshopped before Twitter user @AllLoveLeeds noticed that his ‘crowdie’ was placed directly next to ex-militant leader.
‘Thanks @lufc I’m next to Bin bloody Laden!!!’, the tweet read.
To make matters worse, the fan then revealed that he had submitted his son’s crowdie and thought his son’s cutout would be next to him – not Bin Laden.

Comedian and Top Gear presenter Paddy McGuinness commented on the image
Comedian and Top Gear presenter Paddy McGuinness weighed in on the picture, saying: ‘Nothing surprises me anymore in 2020? Leeds United – Hold my pint.’
Some fans saw the comical side of the cutout, while others pointed out that Bin Laden was actually an Arsenal fan.
Others questioned why someone would pay £25 to have it done before asking how it made it’s way to the stands in the first place.
‘Can’t get over the fact that someone has paid 25 English pounds to put a cardboard cut out of Bin Laden at Elland Road and even more so that the club have done it no questions asked,’ one fan asked.
Twitter users reacted in disbelief at how an image of Bin Laden made it through the cracks
The Yorkshire Evening Post reportedly claims that Leeds United have said that ‘checks are in place to ensure there are no more offensive images’ in the stadium ahead of Saturday’s game against Fulham.
It’s not the first time a public figure has been spotted in the grounds at a sports stadium.
A cardboard cutout of government adviser Dominic Cummings was spotted at a rugby match in Australia last month while images of Donald Trump and Gary Lineker were in the crowd at Cheltenham earlier this week.
