Liverpool handed major injury boost with captain Jordan Henderson set to be fit for Premier League clash with Brighton
JURGEN KLOPP has been handed a huge boost after Jordan Henderson was declared fit for Liverpool’s trip to Brighton.
The champions have been decimated by injuries to both their backline and midfield over recent weeks.
Klopp was down to just two senior fit midfielders for the Champions League defeat to Atalanta on Wednesday night.
Teenager Curtis Jones lined-up alongside veterans James Milner and Gini Wijnaldum during the 2-0 setback at Anfield.
Thiago, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Xherdan Shaqiri are all on the way back from injury.
And Fabinho has been deployed as a makeshift defender to help ease that problem.
However, Henderson returned to training yesterday after being ruled out with a muscle injury he picked up while on England duty earlier in the month.
And his boss has confirmed that the 30-year-old came through training unscathed.
Although the Reds chief insists he will not know his starting XI until he can assess which players are freshest ahead of the Premier League lunchtime kick-off.
Klopp said: “Hendo trained yesterday, parts of team training and then had his individual session, so we have to see what we do with that.”
He continued: “For all the other players who played now (against Atalanta), they are still in recovery, so that’s how it is when you have only these few days in between.
“We have to make late decisions, so if you were to ask me now what will be the line-up and I was in a mood to tell you, I couldn’t.
“I make this decision as late as possible because I have to wait until the medical department tells me who looks like (they are) ready.
“Then it looks like from now on we have another 25-and-a-half hours to make sure that we bring the fittest and freshest players on the pitch.”
