Man City in fitness boost with Angelino’s injury not as serious as first feared – The Sun
PEP GUARDIOLA has been given a fitness boost with injury to Angelino not as bad as first feared.
The Spanish left-back was forced off after impressing in Manchester City’s win against Southampton in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening.
But after the injury scare it emerged Angelino was suffering cramp – and will not be joining Oleksandr Zinchenko on the treatment table.
There were fears the £5.3million signing, who was brought back to the club in the summer, would be Guardiola’s latest crock.
The defending champions have been hit by a string of injuries and suspension problems in their back line which has hampered them this season.
First Guardiola lost influential centre-back Aymeric Laporte to a long-term knee injury.
John Stones was also out for a period and the problems worsened for City with the loss off Rodri through injury and a ban for Fernandinho in the 3-1 cup win.
Angelino impressed at left-back against Saints but cramped up having only played 122 minutes this season and was taken off with 11 minutes to go.
Now, though, it looks as though the 22-year-old will be available for selection when they face Saints again on Saturday, this time in the league.
Benjamin Mendy will also be available to return for Saturday’s clash, with City knowing a victory will maintain the pressure on leaders Liverpool.
John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi are pushing to be centre-backs against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men.
