Mayweather is ‘scared’ of rematch with Manny Pacquiao, says trainer Freddie Roach – The Sun

FLOYD MAYWEATHER is “scared” of a rematch against Manny Pacquiao, claims trainer Freddie Roach.

Mayweather was ringside to watch PacMan, 40, roll back the years and outpoint Keith Thurman to claim the WBA welterweight title.

Talk soon turned to a rematch against “Money” – who in 2015 beat the Filipino icon over 12 rounds in the most lucrative boxing match of all time.

But Pacquiao’s long-time trainer Roach claims Mayweather, 42, is remaining “real quiet” after being stunned by his rival’s performance against Thurman in Vegas.

Roach told Fox Sports: "Mayweather seems to be a little evasive.

"He was real quiet. He didn't stay at the fight after the decision was announced and call anyone out like he usually does.

"I think Manny scared him a little with that performance. Money has nothing to do with it.”

The two former pound-for-pound stars have been embroiled in a social media spat since Pacquiao defeated Thurman.

PACQUIAO 'EXCUSES'

Mayweather accuses the Filipino legend of making “excuses” for his 2015 loss.

Roach and PacMan insists the southpaw was injured going into the clash, after a sparring session left Pacquiao with a torn right rotator cuff.

However, they did not flag the injury to the Nevada State Commision on fight week.

But, Team Pacquiao claim they were denied an injection containing the anesthetic lidocaine and two other pain-relieving prescription medications by the United States Anti-Doping Agency.

Roach insists PacMan is a “much better fighter now than ever” and wants one more crack at Mayweather – with his fighter not one armed.

He added: “He was embarrassed that he lost to Mayweather, he can do much better.

“We did have an injury going into that fight, and we thought that was going to be taken care of right. The injury is all better now, and Manny is getting back to where he once was.

“I just think he’s a much better fighter now than ever. The injury occurred four weeks before the fight. He had to send all his sparring partners home.

“We couldn’t even spar at the end of training camp. My goal was to cancel the fight, but everyone else said we can’t.

“I’m a trainer. As a trainer, I give Manny much better conditioning, and a much better place than the first fight. I do think that’s a fight that he wants really badly.

“I told Manny, ‘if we fight this guy [Mayweather] one more time, beat him, and then retire.”
