Mike Tauchman is Yankees’ odd man out as Aaron Hicks returns
Mike Tauchman still has options, making the Yankees’ options easier to sort through.
The outfielder was moved to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday as a precursor to activating Aaron Hicks from the injured list. Hicks will finally play his first game this season after experiencing lower back discomfort early in spring training.
The Yankees also could have moved the struggling Miguel Andujar to the minors, but they squeezed out the 28-year-old Tauchman, who’s batting .213 with four home runs in 32 games this year. He can and has played center, but Hicks can reclaim that position and Brett Gardner can move over if needed.
Tauchman has been demoted a day after he helped lift the Yankees to a 7-1 win over Tampa, ripping an RBI double off Blake Snell.
