Patriots’ Bill Belichick may never stop haunting Jets in new twist
Will Bill Belichick ever go away? Sadly for Jets fans, the answer apparently is no — not for a while, at least.
The 67-year-old legendary Patriots head coach indicated Monday he may coach past 70, something he said in 2009 he wouldn’t do.
“When I said it, maybe I didn’t know what 70 felt like,” Belichick told WEEI, according to Pro Football Talk, when reminded of his decade-old comments. “So not really sure if that’s an accurate statement.”
Since that statement, Belichick has won three Super Bowls, his 300th career game (this past Sunday) and has continued torturing the Jets, whom he owns a 30-10 record against in the regular season.
That included a 33-0 beatdown earlier this month at MetLife that left Sam Darnold “seeing ghosts,” also known as the product of Belichick’s masterful defense.
If Belichick remains on the sidelines until 73, he’ll become the oldest coach in NFL history.
But it’s unclear if Tom Brady, his quarterback for 20 seasons, will even be back with the Pats next season, with rumors swirling that the 42-year-old Brady may sign elsewhere or call it quits.
