Peter Wright says he wanted to wreck the joint after Premier League defeat

Peter Wright admits he wanted to "wreck the joint" after his defeat to Dimitri Van den Bergh on the third night of the Premier League Darts in Glasgow.

Wright, who was born in Livingston, was relishing the opportunity to play in front of a home sell-out crowd after a winless start to his campaign.

But things didn't improve at the OVO Hydro as Wright was beaten 6-4 by Van den Bergh in the quarter-finals to remain rooted to the foot of the table. Snakebite admits he did feel extra pressure to deliver, with fellow Scot Gary Anderson not involved, and he was left furious with his night's work.

Asked for his feelings on his defeat, Wright admitted: "It is anger. I just want to wreck the joint. The fans gave me a lovely welcome and I feel like I let them down.

"When you come and play for your country, at your home ground, it is not nice to lose. It is extra pressure and it can be difficult to deal with.

"Gary is the only other Scotsman in the field and he is the ambassador for Scotland. It is difficult to replace him. I am gutted for Scotland and gutted for myself."

Wright claims he struggled with the 'wind on stage' throughout his defeat but did miss several opportunities to claw a way back into the match.

And despite his latest defeat leaving him seven points off the pace, he believes he is still in with a chance of winning the Premier League

"I was looking forward to it, I was expecting to come here and win. I am gutted. I was in charge and missed six darts at the double. If I didn't do that, maybe I could have won it. Ifs and buts don't win games though," he added.

"I am not worried. I know I am good enough to win it. I can lose next week and the next two after that and still win it."

Van den Bergh made it to the final on night three in Glasgow before losing to world champion Michael Smith, who laid down a real marker to the rest of the field.

Smith had earlier seen off Gerwyn Price, who also has one victory to his name, and Jonny Clayton to edge ahead of Nathan Aspinall for top spot.
