Ronnie O'Sullivan thrashes Mark Williams to reach Welsh Open final

Ronnie O’Sullivan has stormed into the Welsh Open final with a very comfortable 6-1 victory over Mark Williams on Saturday night at Celtic Manor.

It was a pretty straightforward evening for the Rocket, with Williams struggling to find any sort of rhythm after the first frame.

The Welshman looked good in the opening stanza, making a break of 73 to go ahead, but it was sharply downhill from there for the three-time world champion.

The current world champion made a break of 102 to level up and then completed a run of six straighht frames to claim a comprehensive victory.

There were further breaks of 77, 54 and 69 from O’Sullivan, who dominated the contest, while Williams made a couple of odd shot choices and couldn’t find his range on the long pots on a consistent basis.

O’Sullivan progresses to the final where he will take on the shock story of the weekend, Jordan Brown.

The Northern Irishman was appearing in his first ever ranking event semi-final on Saturday and walked away with the same scoreline the Rocket managed later in the day.

Brown demolished Stephen Maguire 6-1 in a huge upset, booking his spot in the Celtic Manor final.

There could scarcely be more contrast in experience between the two finalists, with O’Sullivan having won this event four times previously and bidding to equal John Higgins’ record of five Welsh Open titles.

Brown has never contested a ranking event final, while O’Sullivan has been in 55, winning 37 titles.
