Royal Ascot 2020 betting tips: Best each-way longshots for Day 1 of the Royal meeting – The Sun
THERE are some fiercely competitive races during Royal Ascot week, and there will no doubt be some big-priced winners.
Our man Jack Keene has had his head in the form book and picked out a couple of longshots to get stuck into on the opening day.
Buckingham Palace Stakes (1.15pm)
They should go hard up top in the opening race of the week.
There is an even spread of pace, too, with Alexander James (drawn 4), Gifted Master (5), Habub (9) and Glen Shiel (10) all likely to go forward on the far side, with First Contact (20), Jack's Point (22) and Motakhayyel (26) the likely to force things on the stands rail.
That could set things up for the strong-travelling FIRMAMENT, who is something of a standing dish in these type of races.

He isn't the most frequent winner but is very capable on a going day, and he warmed up for this with an eye-catching fourth at Newcastle (travelling sweetly into contention before running out of puff).
This stiff 7f is right up his street and he has finished a narrow second in a couple of valuable C&D handicaps in the past, while he has won off this mark previously.
The last jockey to get a win out of him was James Doyle, who takes the ride today, and after a sluggish start the O'Meara stable are starting to hit form (three winners in the last week).

Ascot Stakes (4.40pm)
Verdana Blue is a high-class hurdler and she will love the fast ground (if it stays that way with showers in the forecast).
But she faces some useful types here and isn't sure to relish this stiff 2m4f, seeing as she is all speed over timber.
Her presence means there are a few in here who are attractively priced, including Moon King and Land Of Oz.
The latter won a trial for the Cesarewitch at Newmarket in September, but he may struggle to confirm the form with the runner-up from that race SMART CHAMPION.
David Simcock's lightly-raced five-year-old was staying on nicely in that 2m2f contest and was only a length and a half behind at the line conceding 8lb.
He enjoys a 13lb swing in the weights this time and was last sighted winning cosily on the AW at Newcastle. He's a hold-up horse with a decent finishing kick, so the likelihood of a solid gallop here is a plus.
