The wife of Brazilian soccer star Luiz Adriano is opening up about the death threats she’s received because of their relationship.
Addressing the hateful messages on Instagram, Ekaterina Dorozhko said the hostility intensified upon relocating to Brazil, where Adriano has been a part of the Palmeiras club since last year.
“In the beginning, when I went to football in Brazil, people had the courage to shout at me ‘look, the Russian is coming, hahaha,’” the Russian-born model posted, according to News.com.au.
“Every day, for a long time, I received messages where they wished me death, wished illness on my parents and promised to find me, beat me and many other terrible things because I am married to a black man.”
Dorozhko and Adriano, 33, reportedly started dating when he played for Spartak Moscow, which lasted from 2017-2019. They wed last year.
“I’m lucky because I have nerves of steel and I stopped paying attention,” she said.
Dorozhko also spoke about the protests taking place in the United States in the wake of George Floyd’s death.

“My heart hurts because of what is happening in the world,” she said.
Dorozkho added that she has “never separated people by skin color, hair color or status,” and for her, “we are all the same.”
“Half of my family is black and I love them all so much. I was afraid that they would not accept me because I am Russian and I have a different mentality and my whole life is very different,” she continued.
“Why is there so much cruelty in people? After all, love and friendship knows no color. If hell and paradise exist, then hell is here on Earth. I wish and dream that we all become kinder and wiser because the future depends on us.”
Floyd died last month after former Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck for more than eight minutes.
Chauvin has since been charged with murder and manslaughter. His bail is set at $1.25 million.
