Ten Sovereigns banishes Royal Ascot memories to rout them in July Cup
TEN SOVEREIGNS (9-2) proved he's the real deal with a stunning victory in the July Cup.
Fast ground and front-running did the trick for Aidan O'Brien's speedster, who turned Royal Ascot form around with Advertise in extraordinary fashion.
Smashed into 9-2 from 9-1 last night, backers would never have had a moment's doubt as the son of No Nay Never catapulted away from his rivals in the Group 1 contest.
In an astonishing display of speed, many of the top level performers up against him were made to look slow as Ryan Moore punched his whizz-kid out for a most impressive victory.
Hot favourite Advertise (3-1f) made a good stab of things in second but was unable to lay a glove on the winner, who outclassed his field in memorable style.
Aidan O'Brien's joy was complete as Fairyland (10-1) flew for third.
The winning trainer said: "We slowed him down all winter to help him try and get a mile.
"When we ran him further than his distance it just took him a little bit of time to come out of Newmarket. We were happy with Ascot. He's got the hang of sprinting again.
"His last piece of work was unbelievable. He broke 11 seconds every furlong for four furlongs!"
A delighted Ryan Moore said: "I thought he was very impressive.
"He's still a little bit baybish but he's sharper than he was at Ascot.
"He was very impressive today and he showed he's a top class sprinter."
The winner is 2-1 from 10-1 for the Sprint Cup at Haydock.
