Urban Meyer’s daughters shred ESPN host after comment about family
Urban Meyer’s daughters are upset with ESPN “SportsCenter” host John Anderson for a comment he made during highlights of Clemson’s 29-23 College Football Playoff semifinal win over Ohio State.
Meyer was shown standing on the sidelines just moments before Buckeyes quarterback Justin Fields threw a game-ending interception in the end zone.
“Look at Urban Meyer,” Anderson said. “He was going to spend time with his family, but went to this game instead.”
Those comments did not sit well with Meyer’s family, who were in fact with Meyer in Arizona.
“How is this type of commentary even acceptable? The entire family including grandkids went to support my husband and the Buckeyes,” Meyer’s oldest daughter, Nicki, posted on Twitter. “We had the best week in Arizona. @ESPN have some class. This is bad. I’d @ this guy but don’t know who it is. Pass it along friends.”
Meyer’s son-in-law and Nicki’s husband, Corey Dennis, serves as a quality control coach for Ohio State. Meyer’s son, Nate, could be seen standing next to him on the sidelines, while the rest of the family watched the action unfold in the stands.
“But we were all there the entire week… In fact, probably been spending too much time together,” Meyer’s other daughter, Gigi, posted on Twitter. “But keep ‘em coming.”
While at Florida, Meyer acknowledged that he did not spend enough time with family and made it an emphasis during his time at Ohio State. Meyer, who won three national titles as a head coach, is now a college football analyst for Fox after retiring from coaching following the Buckeyes’ 2019 Rose Bowl win.
Despite his coaching retirement, Meyer remains a part of the Buckeyes’ athletic department and has been linked with several potential NFL head coaching openings, namely the Cowboys and Browns.
