Watch furious Ribery shove linesman TWICE after final whistle to get sent off as Fiorentina lose to Lazio – The Sun
RAGING Franck Ribery copped a three-match ban for shoving a linesman after the final whistle.
The former Bayern Munich man saw red following Fiorentina's 2-1 defeat to Lazio in Serie A on Sunday night.
Ribery, 36, set up Fiorentina's first but was livid after the match following Ciro Immobile's controversial 89th-minute winner.
And a contrite Ribery – who was subbed off in the 74th minute – apologised for twice pushing the official after he was hit with a ban.
Ribery – who recently moaned about his Fifa 20 likeness – tweeted: "I'm really sorry for last night. I apologise to my team-mates, the coach and the fans.
"I apologise to Mr [Matteo] Passeri because at the end of the match I was very agitated and sad, and I hope he can understand my mood.
"I always want to stay on the pitch and help my team-mates because I came all the way to Florence for this city and this club, and I think Fiorentina should get more attention, the same attention given to other clubs, for the great work we're doing every day."
Cameras showed Ribery in heated conversation with the official before he pushed his hands against his chest.
Fiorentina had claimed that the move which led to Lazio's winner started after a foul by Jordan Lukaku on their winger Riccardo Sotil.
La viola boss Vincenzo Montella was also furious with the officials and wanted to know why they did not review the incident on the pitchside monitor and chose only to consult VAR.
He said: "Why didn't they go and have a look?
"It's very serious if the referee does not have a look in a key episode.
"We all stood around for four minutes waiting for the VAR to say if he should see it or not.
"If he'd only gone and looked at it, it would've been a minute or two longer, but at least we'd all be sure."
The defeat leaves Fiorentina in ninth place after nine games.
