Yankees have meetings set with Gerrit Cole, Stephen Strasburg

The Yankees are taking their swing with Gerrit Cole and Stephen Strasburg.

The Athletic reported the Yankees will sit down with the two aces, who are both represented by Scott Boras, in California over the next couple of days. Other interested teams have either already met with them or will do so in the near future. The winter meetings begin Sunday in San Diego.

The Post reported that the Yankees are not the frontrunners for either pitcher. It is believed that Cole, 29, is interested in returning to his West Coast roots and the Angels and Dodgers have been rumored to have interest. The Nationals are the favorites to bring back the 31-year-old Strasburg after the World Series MVP pitched them to the franchise’s first title over Cole’s Astros.

“Let me just say all options are open as far as I am concerned,” Hal Steinbrenner told the YES Network last month in an interview that was released on Monday. “Anything that rolls across my desk I am going to be looking at real seriously. We are going to be active in the free-agent market.”

Starting pitching was seen as the Yankees’ major weakness last season, which ended with a six-game defeat to Houston in the ALCS. Each pitcher is expected to command deal that will go over $250 million.
