Alison Hammond has been dating gardener Ben Hawkins for nearly two years, but the couple has only been photographed together for the first time earlier this week. The 48-year-old presenter hit the headlines on Tuesday when several publications claimed she was getting married. However, Alison and Dermot O’Leary set the record straight about her love life in a tongue-in-cheek way on the latest episode of This Morning.
Dermot began: “The most important thing is – and I can’t believe it – but congratulations are in order. Go for it!”
The sound of church bells rang out across the studio as Alison looked dumbfounded and asked what was going on.
“Oh Alison I can’t believe you didn’t tell us you were going to get married, it’s amazing, I read it in a paper,” Dermot exclaimed.
“I think I might have leaked it to the paper,” he joked as Alison cracked up.
“Cut the music, it’s fake news babes,” she told the producers as she confirmed the rumours were false.
“I’m not engaged, I’m not engaged. I told you whenever I am engaged or getting married, I’d be the first one to tell you.
“I’d put it all over Instagram and I’d put it on TikTok, you know what I’m like.
“There’d be a reel, there’d be a ring but babes I’m sorry it’s fake news.”
Mariam said: “@Thismorning Gutted dot com..Fake news grrr

The segment came after Alison’s engagement was reported in various newspapers earlier this week.
Mail Online reported her future father-in-law Colin Hawkins claimed Alison and Ben were getting married as he called her the “nicest woman we’ve ever met”.
“I do know they have both proposed to one another but there are no rings that I know of,” Colin told the publication.
Dermot joked he’d bought several hats for Alison’s wedding and said he was looking forward to escorting her down the aisle to give her away.
As they linked arms, Alison said: “You never know, one day it might happen, but sorry babes.”
“It’s fake news,” Dermot added. “There’s nothing but beautiful news on here today, is that right?”
Viewers took to Twitter to comment on the announcement, with Michelle writing: “Oh okay, they caught me out with Alison’s engagement #ThisMorning.”

He is the father to her 18-year-old son Aiden who is often pictured with Alison at red-carpet events.
In 2014, Alison reportedly got engaged to her boyfriend Jamie Savage but they split in 2017.
