‘Bachelor in Paradise’: Is Thomas Jacobs Here for the Right Reasons?

Every time Bachelor in Paradise brings new contestants to the beach, there’s someone who isn’t happy about the latest additions. The third episode of season 7 will see a particularly controversial contestant enter Paradise, however. After his dramatic exit on The Bachelorette, Thomas Jacobs is set to join Bachelor in Paradise. Not everyone on the cast believes he’s back for the right reasons, though.

Thomas Jacobs was eliminated from ‘The Bachelorette’ for being dishonest

Jacobs first appeared on Katie Thurston’s season of The Bachelorette. At first, Jacobs seemed to be an early frontrunner. He had a strong connection with Thurston. But on a group date, he committed the show’s cardinal sin, admitting that he’d initially applied because he knew it was a way to “build a great platform.” 

Though he quickly followed up by assuring Thurston that his feelings for her were genuine, the other contestants grew wary of him. Eventually, he said that he’d considered becoming the next Bachelor. At a dramatic Rose Ceremony, Thurston sent Jacobs home.

“You told me things that I wanted to hear. What I learned about you tonight is that you’re selfish, unkind, and a liar,” she said. “Your Bachelor audition ends tonight, so get out.”

The men on ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ aren’t happy to see him

A sneak peek at the third episode of season 7 shows Jacobs’ arrival at the beach. Many of the women looked happy to see him.

“When Thomas walked in, all the girls had a little twinkle in their eye,” Serena Pitt says. In another preview, she says, “Someone is making out with this guy. I’ll be OK if it’s me.” 

The men are less thrilled, particularly the ones from Thurston’s season of The Bachelorette. 

“If you had to make up one day of what could go not my way, it would be Thomas showing up in Paradise,” Tre Cooper says. 

“I truly don’t think he’s here for the right reasons,” adds James Bonsall. 

The preview shows the men grow increasingly upset at Jacobs’ presence, particularly as he begins to pursue connections with some of the women. The end of the preview hints at a potential physical confrontation between the men. It’s clear that they do not believe Jacobs has come back a changed man.

Who will Thomas Jacobs end up with? 

According to Bachelor Nation blogger Reality Steve, Jacobs will become involved with former Bachelorette Becca Kufrin when she arrives in Paradise. 

“Becca was heavily involved with our boy Thomas for the last half of BIP, but, ultimately decided to end things with him and leave single. This will be interesting, because right now in most viewers eyes, Thomas is not well liked. Yet, Becca is pretty beloved in this franchise,” he wrote.

While fans will have to watch to see if this is really how their relationship plays out, it’s clear that Kufrin and Jacobs find some connection on the beach. Viewers can watch the start of Jacobs’ potential redemption journey in the season’s third episode.
