BBC Breakfast row erupts as host clashes with Stop HS2 leader: ‘Why on earth?’

John Kay and Naga Munchetty were joined by a variety of guests throughout BBC Breakfast as they covered today’s news stories. One of the biggest talking points was the news that building work of the controversial HS2 development would begin today. The duo were joined by Joe, who has been campaigning strongly against the new railway line but it didn’t take long before John appeared to disagree with him over the issue.

It was announced the company responsible for building the new rail line from London to Birmingham would be beginning proceedings today. 

While the Government has argued it will boost economic growth and jobs, many have been in fierce opposition.

Today, Stop HS2’s Joe Rukin was discussing the issue with the BBC programme’s host John – but the pair soon clashed. 

While John continued to probe him on the idea of workers going back to the office who could benefit from the project, Joe hit back: “Why on earth do people want to commute? No one wants to commute!”
