Ben Stiller refuses to cut Trump’s cameo out of Zoolander

Ben Stiller refuses to bow to pressure to have President Donald Trump’s cameo in Zoolander axed from the movie almost 20 years later.

The current POTUS made a brief appearance in Ben’s iconic 2001 comedy alongside his wife and now First Lady Melania Trump.

At the time, Trump was merely a regular celebrity but fast forward 19 years and he’s become one of the most divisive Presidents of the United States of all time.

Many have called on Ben, 54, to give Trump’s cameo the chop but the actor won’t be heading back to the editing suite any time soon.

Speaking on The Daily Beast’s podcast The New Abnormal, Ben explained: ‘We were shooting at the now-defunct VH1 Fashion Awards… and as people were coming up the red carpet, we pulled them aside and asked them to talk about Derek Zoolander, and so Trump and Melania did that.’

He then revealed: ‘I’ve had people reach out to me and say, “You should edit Donald Trump out of Zoolander”, but at the end of the day that was a time that existed and that happened.’

Ben directed and starred in Zoolander as the title character, Derek Zoolander, a supermodel who has come to the end of his stellar career only to be brainwashed into killing the Prime Minister of Malaysia. It also starred Owen Wilson as Zoolander’s arch nemesis Hansel and grossed more than $60 million (£47 million) worldwide at the box office.

However, it’s not the only movie or TV show Trump has randomly appeared in.

The former businessman’s face has also cropped up in Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, Sex and The City, Two Weeks Notice, Suddenly Susan and even The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Canada’s CBC cut Trump from Home Alone 2 for TV broadcasts back in 2014 but surprisingly, the president took it on the chin.

He joked on Twitter: ‘The movie will never be the same! (just kidding).’

Trump’s movie career might not be so random after all. In 2017, actor Matt Damon shed light on why the businessman has racked up so many cameos – it was reportedly a clause for movies to shoot on the premises of Trump Towers.

The Good Will Hunting actor told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘[Director] Martin Brest had to write something in Scent of a Woman – and the whole crew was in on it.

‘You have to waste an hour of your day with a bulls**t shot: Donald Trump walks in and Al Pacino’s like, “Hello, Mr Trump!” You had to call him by name – and then he exits.

‘You waste a little time so that you can get the permit, and then you can cut the scene out. But I guess in Home Alone 2 they left it in.’
