Coronation Street set evacuated as cast flee due to extreme weather conditions

Coronation Street has been thrown into chaos by the recent extreme weather when the cast was forced to abandon the set.

Maria Connor star Samia Longchambon took her social media to share a clip of herself leaving the set as she explained they’d been “rained off”.

Strolling down the cobbles of the famous ITV set, she showed fans the empty lot which had become completely rain-soaked.

In the post yesterday, she penned: “Rained off on the cobbles this morning… great start to a Monday.”

It’s unknown how many scenes were impacted by the delay and how long the cast was unable to film.

She wasn’t the only Corrie star to update fans via social media about the situation.

Colson Smith, who stars as police officer Craig Tinker, shared a snap of himself wearing shorts and sliders.

He captioned the post: “I almost had to go into the winter wardrobe this morning,” and added a frozen emoji.

Fresh Met Office weather warnings have since been issues, with more downpours and floods expected on Tuesday.

A yellow warning is in place which will continue into Wednesday.

It comes as more than a month’s worth of rain has fell in 24 hours from Sunday.

No update on the soap set has been given on Tuesday, so it’s safe to assume filming has likely commenced.

Samia has made a few appearances away from the cobbles recently.

This summer, she starred in ITV’s Cooking With The Stars, and at one point worried fans when she needed medical assistance.

Before the episodes aired, the actress confessed: “There was a disaster in training actually when I burnt all my fingers and my thumb.

“It was a really stupid mistake, I was taking a pan out of the oven and Jean-Christophe had told me to put a tea towel over the panhandle which I did.

“But, I also forgot the lid had also been in the oven. With my other hand, I took the lid off and burnt all my fingers and thumb and had to get medical assistance but I’m fine now.”

Coronation Street continues on Wednesday at 8pm on ITV.
