Coronation Street’s Ken Barlow (played by Bill Roache) has had his fair share of twists and turns over his long-running stint in Weatherfield. However, with fans of the soap desperate to know when the character will be making a comeback, it seems there will be a little while longer to wait before ITV viewers will see him grace the cobbles with his presence once more as Bill told Kate Garraway on Good Morning Britain: “The over 70s haven’t been called yet.”
Earlier this year, fans saw Ken depart Weatherfield to move into a local retirement home with girlfriend Claudia Colby (Rule Lenska).
However, the move soon got to Ken and he was left downbeat by the massive change.
He soon ended up finishing his relationship with Claudia and returned to the Street, stirring up trouble within the Barlow clan.
But fans haven’t seen the character on-screen since the early summer due to the continuing coronavirus pandemic, which means actor Bill is not able to film.
Now, Bill has given an update on when he will be back on the long-running ITV soap.
Speaking with Kate and Adil Ray on Wednesday morning’s edition of GMB, Bill confirmed he wasn’t going to be making a comeback just yet.
Host Kate asked the star: “Are you back on it yet?”
The star said: “The over 70s haven’t been called yet, I’ve been told I might be called after August, I hope so.
“We’re ready and willing but no, not yet,” he added.
Bill is not the only character who has been absent due to the ongoing advice regarding the over 70s.
Cobbles icons Rita Tanner (played by Barbara Knox), and Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) are amongst some of the other soap icons who have been missing.
However, fans will get their fix of Ken later today, with a special episode all about the veteran airing on ITV.
