Corrie denies Yasmeen and Geoff hand-washing scene was coronavirus related
Coronation Street has revealed that the hand-washing scene featured during last night’s first episode was a ‘coincidence’ amid the coronavirus spread.
The ITV soap featured a scene that saw Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) return to the kitchen after cleaning the bathroom to find absuive husband Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) had made her a snack.
He informed her to wash her hands before eating, and ordered her to do so to the tune of ‘Happy Birthday’ twice.
Fans wasted little time in taking to Twitter to note how relevant the scene was to the coronvirus pandemic — with some remarking that it was unfortunate that evil Geoff had to be the one dishing out the advice — but Corrie revealed via its official Twitter account that the timing of the scene in question was a mere coincidence.
When replying to one fan, the Twitter account said: ‘These scenes were written and filmed weeks ago. Wish we were that good at looking to the future but it’s just a coincidence.’
Coronation Street continues Wednesday 18 March at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
