Corrie star confirmed as fifth star joining Strictly 2019 line-up
Former Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley has been confirmed as the fifth star joining the line-up.
The 35-year-old actress, who played Eva Price in the ITV soap, will be quickstepping her way into the BBC dancing competition this autumn.
She appeared on This Morning to confirm the exciting news to hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford today.
Speaking to Eamonn and Ruth today, she revealed her relief at being able to speak about the secret and that her code name had been "jasmine".
However she did admit that she was worried because she "can't really dance".
"That's like Ruth in reverse, she said, 'I can dance, I can dance'," Eamonn quipped. "She was deluded!"
Catherine continued: I'm terrified, when I was in theatre school I swerved dancing classes!"
In a statement after the news was announced, Catherine said: "I’m thrilled to be a part of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing. I’m a huge fan of the show.
"It’ll be my biggest challenge to date as I’m not much of a dancer, but I’ve always wanted to learn the skill and the time feels right! I’m nervous as hell but super excited to work with such talented professionals. Hold onto your jazz shoes… mine is sure to be a bumpy/clumsy/fun ride!”
Catherine left Corrie in 2018 to pursue different acting roles and spend more time with four-year-old son Alfie and husband Tom Pitfield.
Her character Eva left Weatherfield with daughter Susie following the inquest into Aidan's death.
Catherine certainly isn't the first Corrie star to waltz onto the BBC dancing competition.
Actress Georgia May Foote, who played Katy Armstrong, was a runner-up on the show back in 2015 with parter Giovanni Pernice.
Tina O'Brien also appeared on the programme in 2010 and Jill Halfpenny, who played Rebecca Hopkins in Corrie as well as Kate Mitchell in EastEnders, went on to win the second series in 2004.
Earlier on today, YouTuber Saffron Barker was revealed to be taking part in the glitzy show.
Speaking to Ashley today, she said that she was excited but nervous about her debut on the hit BBC dancing show.
