'Counting On': Jim Bob Duggar Hints That Another Courtship Might Be Brewing
Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar raised their children very conservatively. The kids have strict rules about dating (known as “courting”) and intimacy before marriage, along with plenty of other beliefs and traditions they must obey growing up. And in the season 10 finale of Counting On, Jim Bob might have hinted that another Duggar might start a courtship soon.
The Duggars aren’t allowed to date — they can only court
Growing up, the Duggar family was raised far differently from most modern American families. Michelle and Jim Bob did not allow their children to attend public school or play competitive sports. The kids spent most of their time at church, and their social life was based around their church as well. Plus, the kids were not allowed to date casually; they could only court, meaning they entered into a “relationship” with someone with the intention of marrying them. The Duggar children also could not have any intimacy during their courtships; they couldn’t even give full hugs until they were married.
Most Duggar children get married very young
At this point, nearly half of the Duggar children aremarried. Eight of the 19 kids have had weddings of their own and are eitherexpecting or have children. Most of the kids wed at a very young age; JoyDuggar was only 19 when shemarried Austin Forsyth, though John David was 28 when he married AbbieBurnett. The kids tend to marry young because they don’t go to college or spendtime exploring the world; they feel it is their duty to have kids and spreadGod’s word.
John David was the most recent Duggar to wed; he was married in November 2018. Now, it’s been more than a year, and no courtships have been announced.
Jim Bob Duggar just hinted there could be another courtship announcement soon
Fans have been patiently waiting for Michelle and Jim Bob to announce another courtship, and Jim Bob might have just given viewers a clue about an announcement in the season 10 finale of Counting On. Toward the end of the episode, he and Michelle said they were looking forward to what the future holds and welcoming even more grandchildren. And Michelle said she wouldn’t be surprised if there were new relationships on the horizon too, to which Jim Bob replied, “There might be something else brewing.” Jim Bob also said there is a lot to look forward to next year, as though suggesting he’s certain someone else will be in a courtship by then.
Fans think either Jedidiah or Jana will court next
For a while, fans have suspected that Jim Bob plays a large role in setting his kids up with their spouses, which explains why he might be more aware of a courtship than other family members. But when it comes to who might start courting, many think it will either be Jana or Jedediah Duggar. Jana is the oldest Duggar daughter and still remains unmarried, which is unusual for the Duggars. Jed is technically the next one in line alongside his twin brother, Jeremiah, but since Jed is running for public office and reportedly lives on his own, many think he could be the next one to announce a courtship.
