Countryfile viewers left 'screaming at the BBC' after 'confusing' Adam Henson report | The Sun

COUNTRYFILE viewers were left "confused" by Adam Henson's mining report on Sunday's episode.

BBC viewers tuned in as Sean Fletcher visited the South West to explore the legacy of Cornwall's tin and copper mining industry.

While Adam Henson went in search of a super fertiliser hidden deep under the North York Moors.

Adam was seen going down into the mine with head of operations, Richard, to see how they mine and cut the mineral.

It took Adam and Richard 40 minutes to reach their final destination in the caves under the North sea.

Richard revealed a miner cuts the mineral and its loaded into a shuttle car, which drops it onto the conveyer, and then takes it out to the shaft.

Viewers were given an opportunity to see the mining process in action.

The host said: "We're all being told to reduce our carbon footprint and I you have some claims towards sustainable – but you don't imagine mining to be very sustainable."

Richard explained: "From the mining point of view it is quite energy intensive but from a processing point of view it is very energy efficient.

"We really only mine it, crush it, screen it and sell it in comparison to other fertilisers which are very energy intensive on the processing side."

However, not all viewers were impressed by the segment and slammed Adam for not wearing a wearing a mask when he was down in the mine.

One wrote: "Anyone else screaming at BBC2 Countryfile tonight: all about mining!

"Lithium, fertiliser, and finally a couple of bats in an ex-mine that makes it all okay… because we’re creating big caves for bats to live in… eventually.. oh f**k the economy."

Another posted: "I'm very confused. Thought mines were bad, now they are being sold as great tourist attractions. #ThankTheVictorians #countryfile."

A third echoed: "Just watched the piece on mining polyhalite. None of that looks safe for anyone. Is it? Dust in the air, 50 miles of tunnels under the North Sea."

"Did worry me that they weren't wearing masks," another worried viewer said.

Someone else agreed and commented: "Just saw the piece on polyhalite mining on BBC Countryfile. Hardly a face mask in sight. Those boys won’t be long about?"

While one annoyed fan added: "Just saw the piece on polyhalite mining on BBC Countryfile. Hardly a face mask in sight. Those boys won’t be long about?"

But not all viewers agreed and some found the segment highly informative.

"Excellent feature on the treatment of acid mine drainage in Cornwall on BBC Countryfile just now. Also on the potential for lithium mining in Cornwall," one said.
