Dr Hilary Jones warns of more local lockdowns as he demands Brits avoid pubs
Dr Hilary Jones is convinced there will be more local lockdowns after Leicester became the first British city to head back into quarantine.
Earlier this week, it was announced that non-essential retail stores in Leicester, as well as schools, must close again from Tuesday, after a surge of coronavirus cases.
Pubs, hotels and restaurants will also remain shut, despite them opening everywhere else in England on 4 July.
And it looks as though the Good Morning Britain regular is certain that there will be many more local lockdowns to come.
Talking to Lorraine Kelly, he explained: ‘It’s devastating for people with businesses and their customers, schools closing and for parents too.

‘But it’s important. They have 10% of all the positive cases in England in that one little area.’
He went on to address how children might be the cause of the recent outbreak, adding: ‘Matt Hancock made a remark that the children are affected in Leicester.
‘They have the virus. They’re well, they’re not unwell, but they have tested positive and they’re capable of transmitting it to households.
‘If children are bringing that virus home, and they have elderly grandparents living at home that’s a potential risk.’
When asked what he thinks about the future of the UK, the 66-year-old told the host that he’s convinced there will be more lockdowns.
Turning his attention to 4 July, when pubs and hotels are set to reopen, the GP warned: ‘I know the last place I’ll be is the pub on Saturday.
‘With everyone wanting to go back straight away, just be patient – wait, avoid the crowds, socially distance, the virus is still there.’
The expert went on: ‘We have lost the fear of it, the fear we had at the beginning has dissipated and people are saying it’s fine we’ll go out there and party.
‘We’ve seen the raves and people on the beach but unfortunately, it’s that minority which will put everyone else at risk.’
As it stands, more than 43,000 people have died from Covid-19 while there are over 306,000 confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK alone.
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays at 6am on ITV.
