Drag Race star Michelle Visage turned down Dancing With The Stars for UK’s Strictly Come Dancing – The Sun

STRICTLY Come Dancing star Michelle Visage has admitted she turned down Dancing With The Stars in the US in the hope of being asked on Strictly.

The RuPaul’s Drag Race judge said how she 'held out' for the offer and ruled out the American version in case her dream opportunity came up.

The 51-year-old said of her love for the UK and the reality dance show: "To me, that was more important because I love this country so much.

"I feel like Strictly holds more of the traditionalism that the dances are.

"I don't want to go crazy and do wacky stuff, I like the idea of getting given a waltz and doing a waltz.

"I don't have to break into the running man to make it interesting, I get to do a beautiful waltz.

"That's what I love about Strictly over Dancing With The Stars or the other shows is that it keeps the tradition of ballroom alive and that's why I held out for this one."

And on her love for Britain she said: "I don't think you guys know how much this country means to me, I absolutely love it.

"The first time I came over I was 13 years old and I had a connection. Sometimes you can't tell what it is.

"I believe in past lives because I think I was a gay British man, I feel like when I walk these streets, I am home. It's bizarre.

"Spending time here is fantastic. My husband is all ready to move over here but we have children.

"I'll split my time here and there, I am honoured to be on two television shows over here, what an honour as an American."

Favourite Michelle has just denied she has an advantage in the competition because of her previous dance experience.

The RuPaul's Drag Race star was in a girlband called Seduction from 1988 to 1991, but has insisted that doesn't make her a trained dancer.

Michelle told The Sun Online: "I am not a former dancer! I was in a girl group in 1989, so I don't want anyone to think I have dance training."

She added: "I am very rusty. But I love to dance and I love to learn, and I am very excited to be doing Strictly."

She said: "I am in my fifties and I have been in this business since my 20s, so nothing anyone says on Twitter is going to affect me.

"But when I was younger, it would have ripped me apart. I am so glad social media wasn't around when I was starting out."

Dancing with pro Giovanni Pernice, Michelle has sailed through thanks to an impressive Cha Cha Cha and a showstopping Viennese Waltz.
