EastEnders fans stunned after Denise learns Emerald isn't her mother and compare it to iconic Kat and Zoe 'sisters' storyline
DENISE Fox was left devastated after discovering Emerald wasn’t her biological mother in Monday night’s episode of EastEnders.
Fans of the show were stunned when Emerald spilled the family secret decades after swearing to keep it during a furious row with Denise and Kim.
Emerald explained: “Denise, I'm sorry.
“We don't know [who your mum is]. Your uncle brought you home and you were just a little dot. What else was I going to do?”
Emerald then insisted she had to leave to go to the airport to get her flight and jumped into a taxi in the square, leaving Denise in pieces.
Fans of the soap could barely believe their ears as they found out about the shock twist – with some comparing it to the award winning 2001 storyline between Kat and Zoe Slater.
In the now iconic scene, Kat revealed she was actually Zoe’s mother and not her older sister.
As she hurried away, Kim tried to confront Emerald, saying: “You've just told her you're not her mum and now you want to go swanning off in Duty Free?”

Emerald replied: “I might not have carried you Denise but I don't stop being your mum because you found out.
“A bad mum maybe but yet still a mum.”
