EastEnders legend makes dramatic return to soap as she's thrown out the back of a van onto Albert Square in first look | The Sun

EASTENDERS legend Sam Mitchell will make a dramatic return to the soap, a year after after she left.

The iconic character, played by Kim Medcalf, left Albert Square in April for a job running a hotel in Spain.

Viewers are about to see Sam checking back into her East London roots – and the lives of her son Ricky and new granddaughter Charli Slater.

She left the square earlier this year when she was given the chance to front a business in Spain with her ex-fiancé Don.

Determined to support her son Ricky (Frankie Day), who is set to become a dad when Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) gives birth, Sam decided to take a job managing a hotel.

Ricky didn't take to the news of his mother's decision well, despite needing the cash.

Viewers were left upset when Sam left the show, however, it was never confirmed as a permanent exit.

Showrunners said that the character would make a return to Walford at some point.

They told The Sun: "We can confirm that Sam Mitchell has not left Walford for good and Kim Medcalf will be returning to EastEnders."
