Emmerdale’s Vanessa Woodfield (played by Michelle Hardwick) and her pal Rhona (Zoe Henry) have been arguing recently after Rhona was contacted by Pierce (Jonathan Wrather) from prison. The last time Pierce made an appearance in the village, he took the life of Rhona’s partner Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) and almost killed Vanessa.
However, in recent scenes, Rhona agreed to help Pierce find his son Marcus Dean (Darcy Grey) because he is dying in prison.
Despite Vanessa protesting to her pal that nothing good will come from it, Rhona asked Ryan Stocks (James Moore) to help her track down a phone number for Marcus.
She later let slip to Vanessa that she’d already left him a voicemail and was waiting for him to call her back.
Vanessa has made threats to Rhona and said she would tell Marlon (Mark Charnock) everything if she made contact.
However, during Wednesday night’s instalment, Vanessa goes behind Rhona’s back and deletes a voicemail from Marcus.
Marcus could be heard saying in the voicemail: “Hello, it’s Marcus Dean. You left me a message earlier. Something about my dad.”
After erasing the message, Vanessa decided to impersonate Rhona by leaving Marcus a message.
She told him: “Hi, sorry, it’s Rhona Goskirk again. Sorry about this but just forget that I called you.”
“The message really isn’t worth passing on,” she continued. “My mistake.”
When Rhona came back into the room, she quizzed her friend on whether she’d had any phone calls.
After denying it, Rhona questioned whether contacting Marcus was the right decision.
“Why do I do these things, eh?” she asked, as Vanessa replied: “Because you care. I suppose we are both guilty of that.”
“I think maybe you were right,” Rhona admitted. “I should tell Marlon, I hate deceiving him.”
The vet is then surprised when Rhona takes a U-turn and urges her not to tell Marlon everything.
“Of course, I’ll support you,” she added. “Maybe you are right, maybe Marlon isn’t in the right frame of mind to handle all of this.
“And somehow I don’t think Marcus will be getting in touch.”
“Fingers crossed, eh?” Rhona replied as she looked disappointed. “Did you raid my chocolate stash as well?”
“No,” Vanessa hit back, as she guiltily added: “Would I lie to you?”
Vanessa has a habit of involving herself in other people’s business, but it is only a matter of time before she gets caught out again.
Despite Vanessa thinking no one was watching her when deleting the voicemail, was she really alone?
She is hellbent on stopping Marcus from contacting Rhona, but despite the confusing messages, could Marcus try to contact Rhona anyway?
Although, if he finds out that Vanessa has been meddling, will he turn out to have a violent streak just like his dad?
The newcomer could end up attacking Vanessa for getting in the way.
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
